This is Zambia

The Republic of Zambia is a landlocked country in southern Africa. The name is derived from the Zambezi River. Zambia was formerly Northern Rhodesia and became independent from the British colonial power on October 24, 1964, the official language is English.

The total size of Zambia is 752,614 km², more than twice the size of Germany, and even 18 times larger than Switzerland. A large part of the country lies on a high plateau. Towards the east to the Malawi border Zambia gets up to 2000 meters high (Nyika high mountains). Towards the south and southwest, the altitude rises to 900 meters. The plateau is interrupted only in two places: by the valley regions of the Zambezi and Luangwa rivers.

Zambia had about 18.4 million inhabitants in 2020. The population is on average very young - 17.6 years (Switzerland 42.8). The population is growing rapidly, and the number of births per woman is about 4.5 children.

Although only about 2 % have English as their mother tongue, the official language is English, the "connecting" element between the approximately 72 different ethnic groups and many different languages.

Economically, Zambia is one of the poorest countries on the continent. 80 % of the population is employed in agriculture, and another 14 % in mining. Agriculture thus employs a large part of the Zambian workforce, but generates only 5 % of Zambia's gross domestic product.

Zambia's tourist attractions hold great potential for the domestic economy. The offerings range from individual itineraries to canoeing, white water rafting and typical safaris. With Victoria Falls, David Livingstone's history, traditional living communities and many fantastic national parks, Zambia has some major attractions that promise quality.
